Hi, I’m Sonia, founder of The Touring Teacher. I’m a qualified teacher, and I’ve built something different for homeschooling families across Australia. I offer online homeschool tutoring Australia-wide, as well as in-person teaching for families across the Perth metro area. My classroom is a converted bus, and I drive it to your home.
How It Works
You pre-book a session, I arrive at your door, and your child steps into our classroom on wheels. I teach them there one-on-one, siblings together, or small groups of teenagers, depending on what best suits your needs. This allows you to get some breathing space while the learning happens just outside. I also offer online tutoring for families who prefer learning support from home, wherever they are in Australia.
Online Tutoring Sessions
My online tutoring brings the same qualified, personalised support straight to your screen, so families from anywhere can access it. Sessions are tailored to your child’s needs, whether that’s building confidence as a learner, strengthening core maths and literacy skills, or preparing for the OLNA with targeted practice and strategies to help them feel ready on the day. I can also focus on a specific area your child is finding tricky, even a single concept within a subject, so they get help exactly where it’s needed. As a qualified teacher who understands that every child learns differently, I work at your child’s pace and in a way that suits them, helping you feel confident that your home learning is on the right track.
Reports That Make Moderation Simple
Every week, families receive a report on their child’s learning. Each report links the activities we did to the relevant curriculum (WA Curriculum/ABLEWA) and shows the work through photos and teacher feedback notes.
The reports are set out the way moderators like to see them, which means your evidence for your annual moderation visit builds up week by week, so you’re not scrambling to pull it together at the last minute. This means that moderation is now a stress-free opportunity to show off your child’s learning and growth, which is almost certainly one of the reasons you chose to homeschool in the first place.

Understanding Kids Who Learn Differently
I bring real knowledge, experience and genuine understanding of children with ASD. PDA and other learning differences. I believe kids deserve better than a one-size-fits-all approach, so I shape my teaching around the child in front of me.
Why A Qualified Teacher?
Being able to do something and being able to teach it are two very different skills. Teaching is both a science and an art. The aim is for your child to be able to understand the information, not just hear it. That’s the expertise I bring into the bus.
It can also take some pressure off home, especially on the days when your child has decided that Mum or any other responsible adult is definitely not the teacher.
More Than A Business
The Touring Teacher is my business, but it’s also my calling and my passion. If I can help a family, even if they don’t need my services, I’ll do what I can to help them find what they need to support them in their homeschooling experience.

Each week, I send a report of your child’s learning, linking the activities we did to the relevant curriculum and showing the work through photos and descriptions, which builds evidence for your annual moderation visit. Week by week, the evidence grows easily and becomes a document the moderator will love, and it means that you’re not scrambling to pull it together each year, and you can relax knowing your child’s education is right on track.
Frequently Asked Questions
I currently support students from Pre-Primary through to Year 10 in Maths and English and children up to 17 years in our Wellbeing program.
Where appropriate, our sessions are grouped by stage of learning to ensure it is developmentally appropriate for all students. However, most of our families find they prefer one-to-one sessions to allow their child to have the focused attention for the full hour-long session.
