Making Maths Simple for Australian Homeschool Kids
Milestone Maths is Australia’s first fully home-grown, print-based maths curriculum designed specifically for homeschoolers. It’s “open and go,” parent and child-friendly, and rigorous, focusing on learning the why alongside the how of maths. With engaging, multi-sensory lessons that won’t break the bank, Milestone Maths also meets or exceeds the standards of the Australian Curriculum, giving you confidence that your children are keeping up with their peers.

What Makes Milestone Maths Different?
- Open and Go: Self-contained student workbooks that foster early independent learning minimise your prep and teaching time, giving you more time to do what you want.
- Special Needs Friendly: Written by an expert tutor, Milestone Maths uses short, multi-sensory lessons to address most common learning challenges.
- Conceptual & Real-World Focus: Traditional wisdom and classic tools combine with modern best practices, focusing on conceptual understanding and real-world applications while covering all essential maths skills.
- Engaging Workbooks: A clean layout, relatable characters, entertaining puzzles and hands on activities work together to make learning a pleasure, helping to avoid “math wars.”
- Commitment to Growth: We plan to grow the curriculum all the way through Year 12, releasing at least one new level per year. Milestone Maths will grow with your child, providing a complete and consistent path for your entire homeschool maths journey.
Born from Necessity
When my youngest son was ready to start homeschooling, I realised none of my existing maths curricula truly fit our needs. The homeschool-friendly options were from overseas, and local resources were designed for classrooms or as homework supplements. Australia desperately needed its own home-grown, homeschool-friendly maths curriculum.
I knew, deep down, that I had the background to create just that. Friends, family, and even complete strangers had urged me for years to write one, but I used a lack of confidence and time as excuses. Yet, once I started making custom worksheets for my youngest son, those excuses vanished.
As a busy homeschool mum myself, I needed something low-prep and built for independence that thoroughly taught the basics through short, fun, and engaging lessons. So, that’s exactly what I designed. I believe Milestone Maths fills a long-standing gap in the Australian homeschool landscape. Visit us to see if it can help smooth your homeschool journey, too.

Meet the Author
Kathy Gonzalez is the Aussie homeschool mum behind Milestone Maths. With a PhD in Computer Engineering and over 30 years of teaching and tutoring experience under her belt, Kathy uniquely understands how children learn maths. From tutoring her high school peers in the 1980s to lecturing 1,000 university students in the 2000s, to sitting one-on-one with a four-year-old, she’s spent decades breaking down tricky mathematical concepts into bites kids (and parents!) can truly digest. For the past 15 years, she’s poured that extensive experience into homeschooling her own boys and tutoring mostly special needs literacy and numeracy. This profound practical and academic experience shines through every page of Milestone Maths, ensuring a rigorous yet accessible learning experience for all.

Frequently Asked Questions
Level B is intended for average children in year 1. Level C corresponds with year 2, etc. However, Milestone Maths is designed to allow children to work independently (once they can read independently) and move at their own pace, so it may be appropriate for a student to be studying a book that is ‘above’ or ‘below’ their nominal year level.
It comes down to flexibility and student appeal. Breaking the year into four books allows for more precise placement and pacing for your child. It also breaks the material into manageable, “bite-sized” chunks, making it feel less daunting and more appealing to students than one or two larger volumes. This structure supports steady progress without overwhelming young learners.
Please see our detailed placement guide.
Level D (for year 3) is due for release on or before the 1st of January, 2026. We plan to release a new level on or before the 1st of January of every subsequent year until we reach level M (for year 12). A prep/kindy year is in planning, with the release date yet to be determined.
In the primary years, lessons usually take between fifteen and thirty minutes to complete. Enrichment or game activities may take longer, especially if the student is enjoying them.
